Stripe is requiring, as of September 2, 2024, merchants to collect CVC codes. Likely a result of potential legislation, Marco Rubio's CVV Act, Stripe is requiring this for payment methods where CVCs are available.
A few things to note:
- This requirement is only for payment methods where CVVs are exposed. Alternative payment methods, such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, will not require CVVs.
- If you are using a Stripe hosted checkout page or Stripe Elements, the CVV form is already embedded and no development changes are needed.
- Payment attempts for required methods without CVVs will result in API errors.
